The Godfather of Breakbeat has died at 54 Years of Age

DJ Randall, British jungle and drum & bass pioneer passed away at 54 years old when a representative confirmed the devastating news to Resident Advisor.

Full name; Randall McNeil, born in east London, exploded in the UK dance and rave scene in the late 80s. A vinyl-obsessed teen and amateur record-scratcher, he first got into acid house at Notting Hill Carnival in 1987 before rocking his own creative strand of breakbeat hardcore.

In 1990, he stepped up at Living Dream when DJ Colin Faver was a no-show, throwing down a legendary 3-hour set for 10,000 hyped-up ravers. From there, Randall was all over the airwaves on Rave FM, Rinse FM, and had a regular gig on Centreforce since '89.

Rising to prominence alongside British DJ partners Fabio and Grooverider for their innovative techniques pushing jungle beats to new heights throughout the 90s. By 1996, Randall had co-founded his own label with Cool Hand Flex — Mac2 Recordings, inspired by the closure of the popular trading shop De-Underground Records.
